If you have any questions you would like to ask about the programme simply reply to this email and we can always arrange a Zoom chat. The full details are on the
website here.

Reflections: Reflect

My first response to seeing the card for April was to laugh. Once I included this word, Reflect, in the No 2 Deck, it was bound to come up for this piece entitled 'Reflections' sooner or later.

If you would like to join me in reflection, ask yourself the questions here, and write in your journal. Or, if you prefer, read on and come back later.

  • What is your first response? To the word? To the colour?
  • What else is there?
  • And, what else?
  • What does Reflect add to the other cards so far? How do the colours connect together?

What else is there?

On the day I have settled down to begin writing this, Reflect is the word of the day in the Dare to Blossom into Joy group on Facebook (if you would like to join us, click here)  I used this 'water dragon' painting (one of a series of new works)  to illustrate my post there.

And, what else?

Today, I feel I am being encouraged to spend more time in reflection, so often I am busy doing - writing, painting, caring for others, walking, daily tasks. And, I know how valuable quiet time to reflect can be. And now another thought arises (another 'And what else?) - at a recent taster circle for the new Compass Rose programme, I experienced  a magic carpet ride with a profound message for me. My magic carpet was a pool of water, when I dared to step onto it, then it transformed into a beautiful creation, a carpet of silk containing all the colours of the ocean - a little like those in my painting above.

I was taken to a beautiful beach where I met the other part of me (in a similar way to one of the journeys described in 'Your Compass Rose Speaks'). She took me to the water's edge and into the sea. Ever since an unfortunate experience when I was about seven, I have been rather afraid of swimming in the ocean. not sure if I can float. She reassured me that she was there to support me. The water was wonderfully warm, just the perfect temperature, and she helped me feel safe as I floated effortlessly..... feeling restored, and complete. As I finish writing this I am reminded that the title of the new programme is 'Diving for Life, Soaring in Joy' and I smile at the feeling of floating between those things during the taster  circle.

What does Reflect add to the other cards so far? How do the colours connect together?

Another sea shade after the warm red of Story last month, how interesting.  They all connect perfectly to the centre point card, to Beauty.

New Dare to Blossom Cards: 'Time for You' coming soon

Just recently, out walking on the cliffs, on one of the rare days when the weather has been fit to do so, I was given an idea - for another deck of Dare to Blossom cards. My first response was to think, as I have in the past, who needs yet another deck?

And yet, the idea was there, and kept pestering me, not wanting to be discarded.  The first two decks are all about rediscovering your inner wisdom. At first I thought this new one might be No. 3 Deck, yet it (she?) has other ideas - the words are action prompts you can use to inspire your own playful creativity. You could spread them all out face up and choose, or you could shuffle and draw one randomly. I began writing a list, and that night, during several sleepless hours due to various worries, they kept on popping up, full of excitement - until I begged them to be quiet for a while and let me sleep, which I did in the end.

Over the next few days I soon had a list of sixty words, some contributed by the Dare to Blossom Community, and I think I now have the final list of fifty. The working title is Dare to Blossom 'Time for You' Cards - as well as playful creativity, they may also prompt actions for self-care and rest. I would love to hear what you think - just reply to this email if you would like to comment, thank you.

I am almost ready to begin creating the cards and allowing their colours to emerge in the printing programme as I do so, then I will order a proof deck before they will be available to order. There may also be a little guide book as well - not sure yet, and that will take longer. Watch this space.....

One to One Coaching: new programme "Deep and slow"

For many people, the deeper connection of one to one sessions is perfect for them once in a while, either for a short block of six, or an on-going arrangement as and when required. People often make big breakthroughs in one or two sessions, and then return for a 'booster' whenever is right for them.

If this appeals to you, I would love to have a Zoom chat with you over a cuppa.  There is no pressure, simply an opportunity to find out what would be useful, and if my approach would be good for you.

So often ‘fast’ and ‘quick’ are presented as good – and often they are indeed. Yet sometimes slow is good: a lazy walk with a friend on a summer afternoon; a leisurely meal with family, taking time to savour the food and enjoy the conversations. Deep and Slow is about the process, rather than the results you will receive. Those results are different each time. The way I support you now is very different to how I began my coaching career back in 2003. So different in fact, that I sometimes hesitate to call it 'coaching' - although that is still a useful term as people have an understanding of that expression. When you connect with me, for a one-off session or a series, I am there as a companion as you explore your own inner wisdom. Sometimes I can offer guidance along the way from my own experience, always being aware that you are different to me and on your own unique path.

You can read more about this programme here, and  testimonials here on my website. Simply reply to this email to ask more or to book a Zoom chat.

March 2024 - Story

First Anniversary Book Publication Celebration events

Taster events for the new six-week Compass Rose programme: "Diving for Life,Soaring in Joy!
Reflections: Story
One to One Coaching: new programme "Deep and slow"

First Anniversary Book Publication Celebration events

As often happens, I am sending the newsletter early to give you a chance to join me in events right at the end of February. (I used to send extra 'bulletin' emails but often people only want to hear from me once a month.)

This time it is the two celebration Zoom gatherings to mark the first anniversary of the publication of 'Your Compass Rose Speaks: Rediscover Your Inner Wisdom.'. Each will last about an hour, If you have your own copy I would love to hear your feedback. You may like to choose a short passage to read during one of the events?

And, if you are like me, and enthusiastically buy books, only for them to sit in a 'to read' pile for a while - maybe this is a gentle prompt to dip in?

They are on Tuesday 27th February at 7.30 pm UK time.  Zoom link here:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87557455757

And Wednesday 28th February at 11.00 am UK, Zoom ink here:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86535544264

There is a new review of the book on Amazon, and my website, with thanks to Jacqui Empson-High. Here is an extract, with a link to read the full review.

A Gentle Way to Discover Who You Really Are

Mary Lunnen has not only written a book that can speak to all who are eager to discover who they are and what they want from their lives, she has created a template that everyone can use for themselves, at their own pace in a time of their choosing.  In a world filled with technology and a need to always be ‘doing’ something to fit in all you are expected to achieve, this book is an antidote to rushing around and ticking off items on a to-do list.

The book explains how to use it, introduces us to Mary’s Rediscovery Cards, her Magic Carpet rides and visualisations, and then sets out the points of the Compass Rose ready to explore.  Mary will not lead you on your journey, that is your own journey to rediscover your true core, your true self, but she will be along side you and will share in your excitement and discovery of the still, small voice inside you that is you.  You will begin to discover where that magical, compassionate part of you has been and what layers have hidden you over the years.

It is writing, yes, but in all of the words you hear Mary’s gentle voice offering thoughts and ideas of how to explore the landscapes you visit. (To read the full review, click here , including the warning "Beware, you will not be the same person you started out as when you arrive at the end of the book." and scroll down to the bottom of the page.)

The lovely photo above of the book is from Trish Covich in New Zealand.

Taster events for the new six-week Compass Rose programme: "Diving for Life,Soaring in Joy!

The theme of 'Diving for Life, Soaring in Joy' has emerged from conversations in my groups, from my own reflections, and from earlier programmes with the title 'Weaving Shadow and Light'.

It feels a challenge to myself to dive deeper, beneath the surface.

Delving beneath the surface reflections in this photo taken on the beach at Harlyn Bay near my home here in Cornwall. Diving down to rediscover, to retrieve the treasures of my life I may have stored there, down in the depths. Forgotten maybe, hidden so well for safe-keeping that I have lost the memories.

Retrieving those parts of my life, of myself, that I wish to bring home, to soar again in joy. Here are full details.

The two taster events are on Wednesdays 6th and 13th March at 11.00 am UK time. Contact me by replying to this email to request the Zoom link, or find the events on Facebook.

Reflections: Story

My first response to seeing the card for March was - ah, a different colour! And then, what story am I telling myself today? Can I change that? Do I want to? Many of the events in my life, all our lives, are not under my control, yet I can always choose how to respond. Often my first response is a reaction, a basic gut feeling. Those reactions are programmed to keep us safe from immediate danger of injury, attack, or death - fight, flight or freeze.

Yet I know for me the story that brings up those fears is often not true of the situation in front of me. My protective brain can make assumptions such as 'Last time this happened, then that followed....' When - if - I choose a different way of seeing the event, my perception, my story, often changes. And that means that I can respond in a more powerful way in this moment.

If you would like to join me in reflection, ask yourself the questions here, and write in your journal. Or, if you prefer, read on and come back later.

  • What is your first response? To the word? To the colour?
  • What else is there?
  • And, what else?
  • What does Story add to the other cards so far? How do the colours connect together?

What else is there?

Story - I love weaving stories, for myself and for others. For me they are therapeutic, absorbing, illuminating,

And, what else?

Today, I do not have an answer, a response to that question. Not yet anyway. And that is fine - as it is for you - there are no rights or wrongs in this process. Simply a word, a colour, and they may or may not spark something for you today. Ah, now I am drawn to the colour, warm and cosy, bringing me a feeling of being tucked up snug in bed, being read a story by my mother as I drop off to sleep.

What does Story add to the other cards so far? How do the colours connect together?

Those sea shades are now complemented by the warm red, Reminding me of the shades in these lovely chrysanthemums. For me the colour feels gently grounding, keeping me from floating too far away, out in the blue. Like sitting in sunshine in a beautiful garden.

Dare to Blossom Monthly Circles on Zoom - with the link for next Monday

I am sending the newsletter early as the first Monday gathering of 2024 is on 29th January at 7.30 pm (UK time). As there may not be much time between you reading this and that event, here is the Zoom link in case you would like to join us. We simply share a quiet safe space together, where I draw Dare to Blossom Cards for each of us, and take us on a Magic Carpet Ride guided visualisation.

The February dates are Saturday 10th at 11.00 am, and Monday 26th. The rest of the dates for 2024 are on the website if you are someone who likes to plan ahead.

Reflections: Silence

My first response to seeing the card for February was - more blues! I went back and pulled out Angels and Silence to check what I thought I could see in the photo here. Yes, they are very slightly different shades of what I see as a soft turquoise blue/green. Angels from the Original Deck, and Silence from the No 2 Deck.

If you would like to join me in reflection, ask yourself the questions here - for either or both these words, whatever you wish to choose, and write in your journal. Or, if you prefer, read on and come back later.

  • What is your first response? To the word? To the colour?
  • What else is there?
  • And, what else?
  • What does Silence add to Angels and to Beauty? How do the colours connect together?

What else is there?

Silence - 'is Golden', in the words of the song. I am not sure how often I experience true silence, if ever. The silence of nature usually has the wind, the sea, the birds singing, and much more within it. Just now, I am equating Silence with Peace - as if I could, if I choose, drop in the centre point of the Compass Rose, into my centre point, and find that silence there, within me. A silence that enables me to hear the voice of my inner wisdom.

And, what else?

I decided to take a photo of the three cards so far, my word of the year, Beauty, and those for January and February. As you may know, I frequently draw three cards, for myself, for people in one to one coaching, and in the Zoom sessions for each of us. So this triad, these three cards in this arrangement, feel as if they have a significance for me - even it I cannot yet describe what that may be. As I often say to people, there are no rights or wrongs in this process, simply what is here, now, for you, and for me. When I look at these three words next time, either in this image, or in the circular spread for the year, I will see something different.

 Beauty Angels Silence

What does Silence add to Angels and to Beauty? How do the colours connect together?

Still, it is the colours that are standing out for me today, rather than the words. I see the shades of a calm sea in the summertime, turquoises where the seabed is sandy, darker blue over rocks or seaweed.

I choose to simply sit with the colours, imagining myself back on the clifftop amongst the spring flowers, sitting in the warm sunshine.

Early thoughts on new writing

I remember when I began writing the book that became Your Compass Rose Speaks, having begun life with a succession of different titles, I shared a number of times, here and elsewhere that I was working on my next book. Then it took a very long time, probably five years in fact, before it was actually published.

So I hesitate to share the very tiny, tender shoots of new ideas that are beginning to emerge for me. They feel very vulnerable, in the same way that the first leaves of a plant emerging early in the year now, here in Cornwall, may be blasted by a hard frost or battered by a hailstorm.

However, I very much appreciate the support of each of you who continues to subscribe here - and those of you who may see this later on my blog pages, and I know you will treat my green shoots with kindness.

There isn't actually much to share yet. To continue the botanical metaphor, the tiny emerging leaves are still at the stage where it is hard to decide what plant they will become as they grow. The themes that are arising for me just now are about a series of reflections, or maybe they could be called essays, or simply chapters - about my past, present, and future self. "Diving for Light, Diving for Joy, Diving for Life" - these are some of those themes. Something about venturing into those hidden places - of memory, of connections, of the sub-conscious, of myth and legend too, and simply seeing what I find, and what I choose to bring back and weave into words, into a story.

Now I am smiling as the Silence card feels perfect, I am sure there is treasure in that too, in sitting quietly and simply noticing what arises, what chooses to flow through my fingers into my journal or onto the screen.

This very early wax painting sits by my desk - although I had to hunt for it amongst all the other beautiful images (mine and those created by others) that are also stacked there for inspiration. I wanted to find the original as well as share an image here with you, as it has always been an aide to meditation for me. Maybe I will use it to inspire my deep dive for stories to share?

I send wishes for health and happiness for you and all you love.

Thank you for joining me here this month, any thoughts, feedback, or questions are always welcome.

Welcome in 2024 with a Dare to Blossom Magic Carpet Ride on 2nd January at 2.30 pm UK time

This will a chance to gently step into the new year in a small supportive group on Zoom, for about an hour together. Simply reply to this email if you would like me to send you the Zoom link. I have chosen the time to be a little easier for friends in the USA or Canada - it is 9.30 am Eastern time, and 6.30 am Pacific (which is still rather early I know.) If we are connected on Facebook, this link will take you to the event page there.

Reflections: Beauty + Angels

As we step into another new year, another turn around the sun on this precious blue planet of ours, I decided to repeat the 'wheel of cards' for each month. I have already chosen my 'word of the year' - Beauty. A reminder for me that there is beauty all around me, even in the most unlikely of places and difficult of situations.

Then I turned the first card, for January - Angels. another soft shade of blue. This always makes me smile, as I remember that saying "Angels fly because they take themselves lightly." A reminder not to take myself too seriously, weighing myself down with worries about things that probably will never happen.

If you would like to join me in reflection, ask yourself the questions here - for either or both these words, whatever you wish to choose, and write in your journal. Or, if you prefer, read on and come back later.
  • What is your first response? To the word? To the colour?
  • What else is there?
  • And, what else?
  • What do Angels add to Beauty? How do the colours connect together?

What else is there?

On Boxing Day, there was a rare dry day with no wind, no blue sky but a few gleams of sunshine. I took the opportunity to walk on the cliffs at one of my favourite spots, near Trevone on the north coast of Cornwall, just a few miles drive from my home.

I was delighted to see that the fulmars are returning ahead of their nesting season. If you are regular readers you may remember that I love watching these amazing sea birds as they swoop and soar close to the cliffs. I found this little feather, it could be from a fulmar, or one of the herring gulls that also live along these cliffs. It is also very similar to the photo with the card I took some years ago on a warm summer's day, in almost the same place.

And, what else?
I am not someone who places particular significance on finding a white feather - there are far too many seabirds who shed feathers where I walk to do that  - yet, this 'coincidence', while I am writing about Angels, makes me smile.

I did my best to get some shots of the fulmars in flight - it is harder when there is no wind as they are having to use their wings more, rather than floating on the air currents. here is the best one.

What do Angels add to Beauty? How do the colours connect together?

I had already been so very thankful for the opportunity to get out and enjoy the Beauty of the cliffs I love so much. The Angels card reminds me to notice, the little things, the tiny quirks of nature, such as these stunning red fungi, (which I think are Scarlet Waxcaps) as well as the grand views of the ocean. The colours of the two cards were present all around me in the shades of the sea that day.

Taster Circles for the first 2024 Compass Rose Programme: "Coming Home to Yourself"

The new six-week Compass Rose programme begins at the end of January. Before then there are two more chances to experience one of the Zoom circle which happen every week. The 'tasters' are on Wednesdays 10th and 17th January, at 11.00 am UK time. Simply contact me by replying to this email if you would like to join in one or both and I will send you the Zoom link. To put your mind at rest, there is never any pressure to sign up for any of my paid offerings, simply an invitation for you to take up if you wish. If you would prefer to ask your questions one to one, again simply reply to this or contact me to ask and/or arrange a time for a Zoom chat.

If you read the December newsletter, you will have seen the details below already, you may like to read on to refresh your memory, Alternatively, the booking page on the website is now open, simply click here to reserve your place.

Reflecting on how that time has often felt in the past, I remember the numerous articles, in print and online, about New Year resolutions, getting fit, losing weight, creating a 'new you'. In fact I remember offering a workshop, many moons ago now with the title 'New Year, New You', and it makes me shudder now.  Why? Surely there is nothing wrong with resolving to do all those things, to focus on a fresh start?

No, not at all, and yet, after many many years of reading about and taking part in 'personal development', and 'self-improvement', now I notice how bad many of those things made me feel. One aspect for me is the timing, January is a time when I feel like resting, if not hibernating, of snuggling up, keeping warm, withdrawing from the world until the green shoots of spring begin to arrive. By the end of January and into February, the hours of daylight here in the northern hemisphere are beginning to lengthen, green shoots of snowdrops may be emerging. For me this feels like a fresh new start to the year.

As I wrote last month, you may be familiar with this painting, one I created years ago at a workshop. If you have been on a Zoom call with me you will have seen it hanging on the wall behind me here in my home in Cornwall.

I chose it for this programme as it is a reminder for me that in coming home to myself, I have truly never left, my light has always been here, shining within to guide me, even when I sometimes lose the connection.

The programme will run from the week beginning Monday 24th  through to Friday 1st March, there is a sliding fee structure so you can choose to pay the amount that feels right for you (and you can choose to pay by instalments). full details here.

December 2023 - Choices

 Reflections: Choices

A Pause to Breathe - emails start next week

Dare to Blossom Monthly Circles on Zoom - the last this year and programme for 2024
One to One Coaching
First 2024 Compass Rose Programme: "Coming Home to Yourself"

Reflections: Choices

Ha! This last card in my wheel, revolving around my word of the year, drawn in January, caused me to laugh as my first response today. Somehow, I expect (or maybe hope?) that the end of any year will be a tidy round up, a completion of my plans. Yes, there is some of that for me to reflect upon. And,  an array of new possibilities, of choices appearing.

If you would like to join me in reflection, ask yourself the questions here and write in your journal. Or, if you prefer, read on and come back later.

  • What is your first response? To the word? To the colour?
  • What else is there?
  • And, what else?
  • What does Choices add to Presence? How do the colours add to each other? What do all the words this year bring for you?

What else is there?

So, for me, after my first response, I feel drawn ahead, beginning again, seeing the reminder to Focus. This was January's card, the very first, and yet, feels so relevant to where I am just now.

And, what else?

Just now I feel I cannot make any choices, in fact I cannot see clearly at all. I remind myself that simply being present in that centre point, in Peace in the Compass Rose, may be simply an opportunity to rest. To choose to rest, choose to make that my choice rather than to act.

What does Choices add to Presence? How do the colours add to each other? What do all the words bring for you?

Being present, sitting with Presence, feels like a support for those Choices I may be faced with next. I am smiling again as I was about to write : "...those Choices I may be presented with next." Presented, Presence. As for the colours, due to the way the camera can change the colours in a photo, I went back to my combined deck of 100 cards and drew out these two, Presence and Choices. And yes, they are the same shade of deep blue.  How interesting.

Sitting back to reflect on the thirteen cards, the whole wheel of the year, for me there is a feeling of flow, of both symmetry and synchronicity, in the way the cards have appeared throughout these months. I am not sure I can put into words, yet it is there.

I would love to know if you have enjoyed this approach as we have travelled through 2023 together - please do reply to this email and let me know. Shall I repeat it again in 2024? Or look somewhere new for inspiration for my reflections to share with you here?

A Pause to Breathe

As I mentioned in the extra email this month, this is a simple offering via email starting in December: Offering you ‘A Pause to Breathe’ – two emails each week for five weeks over Christmas and New Year, with gentle thoughts to allow you to take a moment in the midst of all the busy times. Now is the time to sign up to receive the emails starting next week, visit the Workshops and Events tab on the website. The emails will be short and simple, with suggestions to 'pause to breathe' (rather than long and full of news as these newsletters are) - and of course you can dip into you mail box and read them whenever you wish, as they arrive, or several at once later in the five weeks.

Gift ideas

I have recently hosted a sale of encaustic art on Facebook, and I realise I have not shared it here with you - my apologies for that. The usual price for each original painting is £48, and they have been offered during November at £20 each plus postage and packing to where you are in the world. For you I will extend the sale a little longer.

They do make beautiful gifts, although I think I can only promise a quick delivery to those of you in the UK at this stage in the year.

Here are a selection of those still available, just email and let me know if you are interested. Each painting is mounted ready for framing. Mount size is 6 inches by 8 inches

In addition, my books (signed copies from me, or available online wherever you like to buy) and the Dare to Blossom Rediscovery Cards (only available from me) are gifts that people tell me they enjoy all year round.

First 2024 Compass Rose Programme: "Coming Home to Yourself"

My gratitude to those who were interested in this programme when I planned it for the end of 2023. It has turned out to be best to postpone to late January for various reasons.

There will be two Zoom taster circles before Christmas, Wednesdays 29th November and 13th December at 11.00 am UK time, and two in January. And, to put your mind at rest, there is never any pressure to sign up for any of my paid offerings, simply an invitation for you to take up if you wish. If you would prefer to ask your questions one to one, again simply reply to this or
contact me to ask and/or arrange a time for a Zoom chat.

The programme will run from the week beginning Monday 24th  through to Friday 1st March, full details and the booking link will be on the website very soon.

One to One Coaching

For many people, the deeper connection of one to one sessions is perfect for them once in a while, either for a short block of six, or an on-going arrangement as and when required. People often make big breakthroughs in one or two sessions, and then return for a 'booster' whenever is right for them.

Either way, I would love to have a Zoom chat with you if you would like to explore the option of one to one coaching with me. There is no pressure, simply an opportunity to find out what would be useful for you, and if my approach would be good for you.

You can read testimonials here on my website.

I send wishes for health and happiness for you and all you love.

Thank you for joining me here this month, any thoughts, feedback, or questions are always welcome.
